We caved...

July 28 Saturday

We spent our day driving from Buffalo, Wyoming to Kennebunc, South Dakota. We made 385 miles today. Most of what we see is ranchland - with very dramatic, steep terrain this morning to more rolling hills in the afternoon. Now we are in to the big flat. We got to see Wall Drug in Wall, SD. If you have every driven through, than you know that the signs go for hundreds of miles in both directions about all the things at Wall drug. The life-like TRex with red blinking eyes, steam, and growling scared Elyse half to death. The old west silliness was fun for all of us to play around. Better yet, we managed three different playgrounds today! One at just a plain rest stop, at a school for lunch, and this evening we are once again enjoying the hospitality of a KOA. We have "sold-out" as Ron says, because we are now seeking out the luxury camping accommodations. Tonight we are in our tent, but we stayed here because there is both a playground and a pool. Our kids have been traveling so well, hardly complaining about being buckled in their seats for hours at a time, that we are glad to have something fun for them at the end of the day. If our routine now includes a daily swim as well as the playground tour, and we do cabins more than the tent, I'm OK with that! :) Isaac is cranky because he is getting teeth, and we are all a little sleep deprived, but I'd say we are faring quite well after 2 1/2 weeks of traveling.

July 27 Friday

We left Jen and Polo's around 8:00 this morning. We drove through some HOT weather today! We are aiming for about 350 miles a day on this leg, almost exactly what we did today. We have 1600 miles to go to get to my grandma's, Grandma Bessie. She is in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. We drove through Montana and into Wyoming today, spending the night in Buffalo, WY. We are really enjoying the scenery, and are still pointing out cows and horses to the kids as we pass them. It looked like rain at the end of the day, so we opted for a camping cabin at a campground/RV park. It feels like a Fairbanks cabin, dry but with electric. We even have a porch swing. The kids both like it, and it gives them space to play. We stopped a little early, around 4:00, so we would have time to go for a swim and run around. We were glad to find both cabin and pool to play in!

Two and half weeks?! I can't believe it has been two and half weeks already since you hit the road. Just think how far you've already gone. Malone or bust!

It was great to read your blog and track your travels. Good luck finding more playgrounds.

Miss you,
Rachel

HI Guys! That red eyed T-Rex scares me too! I forgot about him. Kinda freaking being close to the Buffalo too! Sounds like the journey is going pretty well. We loved having you here!! And hope it isn't another 5+ years before we meet up again. I will keep up on your travels and talk to you soon! Much love to all of you. Jen and Polo
