new kayak!
What a week we have had! Ron entered a raffle when we went to the Franklin County Fair and
he won a new kayak! We went to one of the Tav family's favorite camping spots from when Ron was a kid - Meacham Lake - to try it out. It was pretty windy, but it handled well and we had a good time. Even tried it out with Elyse in his lap and the two of them had a good little ride. Oh, he also won a whole dollar in the lottery! We took a trip in to Canton on Wednesday, got an address and a few other things squared away while we were there. Ron met with several of the faculty to start getting an idea of what he needs to have ready for the first day of school. He has a lot to do and there are big plans for how to expand the biology program, so he won't have to worry about having nothing to do.
We also took a trip to Tupper Lake to visit the Wild center. Basically a nature center/living museum that focuses on the natural history of the Adirondack park area. It was a nice place! Notice where the otter is in this picture, not where the kids are!We still have another week or so until we can get in to the apartment, but we started taking stock of what we will need to have. We picked up a free couch today and bought an outdoor table chairs set on clearance to eat on for now. We also got a desk for Ron. The one thing we didn't buy cheap or "for now" is a new mattress. Ron tried out several to make sure he got something that he can be comfortable in.
Ron will start commuting to Canton tomorrow and make sure to dedicate time to getting his work done. It's just starting to sink in that this is more than a vacation and I am home with kids full time. It will be a little strange to move in to our place and have it just be the two of them and me. I've gotten used to all the extra help of having everyone home together, including Ron's parents. Looking forward to doing more crafts and having the time to keep things consistent for them.

Wonderful news about the kayak! Looks like a beautiful place to use it too.
Here I can hear thousands of sandhill cranes and geese flying over the university. Fall! It's here!!
